overview

BIOFOR Technology

The BioFOR process is mainly used to remove BOD, TSS, and ammonia pollution in secondary and tertiary treatment. Every parameter of the treated water discharged from the BioFOR device meets high-quality standards, thanks to the filtering effect of Biolite * filter media.

As BioFOR is designed to handle higher organic loads than traditional systems, this device can adapt to higher filtration speeds. This device can handle soluble pollution and solid separation in a compact reactor, thus eliminating the need for a secondary clarification tank. The control system based on PLC can achieve automation of filtering operations.

Service mode

The working principle of BioFOR

The treated effluent continuously enters from the bottom of the reactor and is distributed over the entire surface area of the filter through a nozzle water distribution system. Afterwards, the water will flow through Biolite ™ Filter media, which will trap suspended solids. Due to the high concentration of fixed membrane biomass being intercepted by the filtration medium in the filtration cycle, carbonaceous and ammonia pollution can be eliminated.

In the aeration version (used for BOD removal and nitrification), process air is continuously injected into the bottom of the reactor through an air diffuser.

The use of synchronous upstream design helps to limit the generation of odors, as treated water is located on the surface of the filter (in contact with air), while untreated water enters from the bottom of the filter. The number of filters in the filtering service depends on the traffic entering the factory. During low flow periods, inactive filters will receive regular aeration to maintain biomass in optimal condition. Due to the fact that filters can stop working when not needed, operating costs (caused by the production of process air) can be reduced.

Features and Applications

Characteristics and Applications of BioFOR

main features

  • In upflow filtration, the water flow is fully diffused in the filter medium, thereby achieving uniform distribution of biomass throughout the entire filter bed
  • The synchronous flow of water and air prevents short circuits and extends the operation time of the filter
  • The unique nozzle floor design that can quickly adapt to changes in flow rate and load achieves the optimal distribution of fluid during filtration and flushing processes
  • Efficient flushing system can adapt to filter bed depths up to 13 ft (4.0 m)

application

  • BioFOR C can be used to remove BOD, COD, and TSS
  • BioFOR N can be used for ammonia nitrogen nitrification
  • BioFOR C+N can be used to simultaneously achieve BOD removal and nitrification
  • BioFOR pre DN can serve as a pre denitrification step without the need for additional carbon sources to achieve nitrate removal
  • BioFOR post DN can serve as the final denitrification step that requires the addition of a carbon source to achieve nitrate removal
